Obituary for Doris J. McCollum

January 19, 1930 - June 21, 2019

Doris J. McCollum, 89, resident of the Hillsboro community, died Friday morning, June 21, 2019 at her home.

Doris was born to Allen and Ada Morley in Bend, Oregon and spent her younger years living in Brooks-Scanlon logging camps with her parents until they moved to Bend where she completed her education.

She married her high school sweetheart, Vern Clark. The couple moved to Burns, Oregon with their two young daughters Marcia and Deborah. Cynthia joined the family in 1961.

In 1968, the Clarks moved to Hillsboro, OR where the couple later divorced.

Doris married Edward McCollum in 1981 and continued to live in their home after Ed’s death in 2015.

Doris worked as an Administrative Assistant for Hillsboro School District until retiring in 1990. She, along with many co-workers and other friends, became a group of ladies dubbed ‘The Beachers’ and, as a group, enjoyed many vacations to Oregon beaches, dinners and weekly entertainment.
Over the years, she visited Hawaii and several other states plus, Guam and Japan. Especially exciting for her, were cruises on the Rhine River and around the horn of South America.

At home, she took pleasure in her flowers and pets.

In addition to her three daughters, she leaves four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Doris requested her remains be cremated. Memorials for Doris at Ecola State Park and Bend, Oregon will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Bonnie Hayes Animal Shelter, Hillsboro, OR in Doris’s name.
