Obituary for Robert Salisbury

Robert C. “Slats” Salisbury, 71, formerly a resident of Jacksonville, OR, died Monday evening, January 21, 2019 at his home in Portland.

Private Cremation Rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove.

ROBERT CLARK SALISBURY was born June 25, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Peggy Louise (Clark) Salisbury, and the late George Champlin “Champ” Salisbury Jr. The family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Bob attended Elementary through High School. He majored in Forestry at the University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point.

Bob married Mary C. O’Donohue on May 28, 1972, and they celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary this past May. They lived in Tigard, Oregon, before moving to Southern Oregon in 1977. In June of 1978, they bought a 40-acre home in Jacksonville, Oregon. This is where they lived for 40 years, raising their three children.

Bob studied welding at Portland Community College, before going to work at Medford Steel. His love of woodworking led him to become a builder, and for over 30 years he was well known for his finish work, building Craftsman style homes in Ashland, Oregon. One of his biggest projects was the Mountain Meadows Retirement Community.

Bob loved music, the outdoors and gardening. He was a devoted husband and father, and loved spending time with his family. He attended all sporting events his children participated in, and had a lifelong love for Baseball, going to Milwaukee Braves games with his brother when Hank Aaron was a star.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Salisbury; his three children and their spouses, Colleen and Gus Little, of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Kevin and Kimmie Salisbury, of Portland, Oregon and Emily Salisbury, of Portland, Oregon; his mother, Peggy Salisbury of Sun City, Arizona; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Terri Salisbury, of Ypsilanti, Michigan; his sister, Anne Flasch, of Ripon, Wisconsin; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bob Romano, of Tampa, Florida.

Bob’s kindness and sense of humor will be missed. We will think of him every time we are in the forest.
