Obituary for John Oliver Iverson

John O. Iverson, 86, a resident of the Cornelius community, died Wednesday morning, August 28, 2019, at his home.

JOHN OLIVER IVERSON was born December 6, 1932 in Bellingham, Washington, the son of the late Erwin Wilde Iverson and Violet (Macmillan) Iverson, He was raised and received his education in the Bellingham community, having been a graduate of the Bellingham High School Class of 1950. Upon his high school graduation, he attended Western Washington University in Bellingham.

He was a Veteran of the Korean conflict, having joined the United States Air Force on May 1, 1951 in Bellingham, Washington. John served for one year, before receiving his honorable discharge on September 22, 1952 at the McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington, at the rank of A/3C (P).

John was united in marriage to Rosamary K. Tinius on October 27, 1956 in the Birchwood Presbyterian Church in Bellingham, Washington. They celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary this past October. Following their marriage, they resided in several communities including, Seattle and Bellingham, Washington; Milpitas, California; Pumpkin Ridge, Hillsboro, St. Helens, Columbia City and Dayton, Oregon, until 2008, when they moved to the Cornelius community, where they have resided since.

He had worked for Tektronix, Inc. as a glass technician in Beaverton for 1979 to 1991, when he retired.

Among his special interests, he enjoyed boating on his 35-foot Chris Craft out of Warren, Oregon. While raising his children, John and his daughter, Cynthia would race Quarter Midget Race Cars in Milpitas, California.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Violet Iverson.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Iverson, of the family home in Cornelius, Oregon; his daughter, Cynthia Hunt, of Sheridan, Oregon; his son, Ken Iverson, of Hillsboro, Oregon; his two sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara Oliver, of Bellingham, Washington and Margaret and Byron Smith, of Villa Rica, Georgia.

Also surviving is his grandson and fiancee’, Douglas Adkins and Julia, of Vernonia, Oregon and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the American Heart Association, Oregon Chapter, 1200 N.W. Naito Parkway, Portland, Oregon 97209 or to the American Diabetes Association, Oregon Chapter, 4380 S.W. Macadam Avenue, Suite 270, Portland, Oregon 97239, in his memory.
