Billy Ray "Bill" Buckner, 75, resident of the North Plains community, died Monday afternoon, July 29, 2019 at St. Vincent's Providence Hospital in Portland.

A private Celebration of Life was held.

BILLY RAY BUCKNER was born May 31, 1944 in Forest Grove, Oregon, the son of the late Raymond Ray Buckner and Billy Christine Wolfe. He was raised and received his education in Hillsboro, Oregon.

He was a Veteran of the Vietnam era, having served one enlistment in the United States Marines. Billy served for 4 years, from 1962 to 1966, when he received his honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant. He received several citations including the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Billy was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Buckner on May 25, 1968 in Hillsboro, Oregon. They met at the Primate Center in Aloha where they both were employed in 1967. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Hillsboro community, until moving to their home in Mountaindale, where they lived for a lifetime.

He had worked as painter for Western States Fire Apparatus in Cornelius, for many years, until he retired and kept busy with landscape work.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, on March 3, 2018, after celebrating over forty-nine years of marriage together.

Among his special interests, he enjoyed playing golf, target shooting and kayaking. Billy also loved rafting, as he was a great guide and captain of the boat. He also enjoyed spending time flying gliders with his friend, Vic Britt.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Billie Buckner and his sister, Nancy Lyons.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Noah Jones, of North Plains, Oregon; his son, Kenny Buckner, of North Plains, Oregon and his brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Nancy Buckner, of Guadalupe, California.

Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Zoe Jones and Jackson Jones and many nieces and nephews.
