Obituary for Ernesto "Ernie" "Neto" J. Sanchez

Ernesto J. “Coach Ernie” Sanchez, 60, a resident of the Cornelius community, died Friday evening, May 11, 2018 at his home.


ERNESTO JOSEPH SANCHEZ was born March 27, 1958 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Atanacio Sanchez and Maria Raquel (Soto) Sanchez. He was raised and received his education in Los Angeles, having attended the John Marshall High School.

He was united in marriage to Maria Hernandez Sanchez on March 29, 2015 in the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Cornelius. Following their marriage they have made their home in the Cornelius community since.

Ernie had served as a Music Minister at the Sobre La Cruz Church in Los Angeles, California for many years. He also played worship music with his bass guitar and keyboard at other congregations and senior homes in the Los Angeles area.

Among his special interests, he enjoyed music and he loved animals, especially caring for his dog, “Esther” and his four parakeets.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Sanchez.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Hernandez, of the family home in Cornelius, Oregon; his father and step-mother, Atanacio and Chela Sanchez of El Paso, Texas; his two daughters, Alicia Sanchez and her fiancé, of Los Angeles, California, and Yvette Tayun of Aloha, Oregon, and his brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Marivel Sanchez, of El Paso, Texas.

Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Samuel Edward Garcia; Adrinna Joy Garcia; Matthew Elijah Garcia; Elizabeth Victoria Garcia and Andrew Jeremiah Tayun and numerous nieces and nephews, including Arturo and Josie Sanchez, of El Paso, Texas and Sara Soto, of El Paso, California.
